Minnesota Vikings running back Dalvin Cook will not play Sunday against the Atlanta Falcons, coach Mike Zimmer confirmed Friday.

The NFL rushing leader strained an adductor muscle in last Sunday's loss in Seattle and has not practiced all week.

Minnesota has a bye week following their game against the Falcons, which gives Cook additional time to recover before a Nov. 1 NFC North showdown with the Packers in Green Bay.

Cook, 25, leads the league with 489 rushing yards and seven rushing touchdowns through five games.

The Vikings will turn to second-year back Alexander Mattison to make his first career start Sunday at home against the winless Falcons.

Mattison, 22, replaced Cook and ran for 112 yards on 20 carries in the 27-26 loss to the Seahawks. He also caught three passes for 24 yards.

Also out for the Vikings on Sunday: cornerback Kris Boyd (hamstring), return specialist K.J. Osborn (hamstring) and guard Dru Samia (wrist).
